Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The federal government has approved another round of funding for Mayo Clinic’s cancer research activities.

The National Cancer Institute has informed Mayo its latest grant will provide nearly $29-million in funding through 2024. The NCI Cancer Center Support Grant has provided more than $146 million to Mayo Clinic Cancer Center over the past 44 years.

The agency has also renewed Mayo’s designation as an NCI comprehensive cancer center.

The NCI has recognized Mayo Clinic Cancer Center as the only comprehensive cancer center with three geographic sites in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota.

“We’re pleased that the NCI recognized our strong performance over past five years,” says Robert Diasio, M.D., director of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. "These results would not be possible were it not for the efforts of hundreds of clinicians, researchers and support staff who come to work every day looking to improve the lives of patients with cancer.”
