Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A well-known Rochester business owner, philanthropist, and former elected official has passed away.

An obituary posted today by Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home says Al Tuntland died at his home on Monday following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 81 years old.

His obituary says Tuntland came to Rochester in 1964 and became the owner of Schmidt Printing in 1976. He sold the business in 1989 and later served as President of the Rochester School Board in the 1990s.

Tuntland also served on the boards of numerous local organizations. The list includes the Rochester Area Foundation, where he used some of the proceeds from the sale of his business to establish the organization’s first Donor Advised Fund to benefit local charitable efforts.

A memorial service for Tuntland is scheduled on October 25 (noon)at Bethel Lutheran Church. A visitation will take place on October 24 (4-7 PM) at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home.
