Boston (KROC AM News) - Not only did Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano hit a monster home run Wednesday night.

He may also have become a lifetime hero to a Boston Red Sox fan.

During batting practice at Fenway Park earlier in the day, Sano hit a ball into the outfield bleachers that hit a young fan in the head as he was trying to catch it. Sano felt bad for the kid and ended up giving him an autographed bat and jersey. And he also promised the boy he would get a hit for him during Wednesday’s game.

Did he ever come through.

Sano blasted a pitch in the 3rd inning that flew 495 feet - the longest homer in the majors this season and one of the longest ever recorded at Fenway. The boy was a witness to the long home run as he was sitting with his father near the Red Sox dugout. Sano gestured to the boy as he crossed home plate, adding one more memory to the kid’s memorable day at Fenway.

The story was somewhat similar to a famous baseball legend that happened nearly 100 years ago involving a kid by the name of John Sylvester, who was seriously injured in a horseriding accident. A message about the boy's situation was sent to Yankees superstar Babe Ruth, who was playing in the World Series.

Ruth sent the boy some autographed baseballs and a message promising to hit a home run in that day’s game. Ruth came through as he hit three homers in the game.
