Minnesota Has Many Funny Names for Ketchup? Who Knew
Minnesota is known for a lot of things.
Such as: we are the land of 10,000 plus lakes. Iconic musicians Bob Dylan and Prince hail from here. People are not just nice, but "Minnesota Nice". We use words like "uff-da", "you betcha" and "ope". Could go on and on, but what I really want to talk about is one thing we are not known for and that is
My boyfriend, who is from Texas, has had one consistent complaint, when we go out to eat, since he has moved up North to Minnesota and that is the food is really bland. He grew up in Texas, close to Louisiana, so really the spicier the better. Hence, when you come to a state where many feel pepper is spicy that can be a problem. Thankfully I like to cook with a lot of spices, but when going out to eat, again that's a different story and I actually agree very much with this sentiment that I saw it the other day on reddit.
I literally lol'd (Laughed out loud) when I saw this. I had heard of Minnesota being bland, but had not seen it given the nickname "Blandnavia" before, and for anyone offended. I'm sorry, it's funny because it's true. By now saying ketchup is spicy, is more a joke than it actually being hot. However, what I didn't know was that Minnesotans had a few other names for ketchup and they are too good not to share.
Have you ever heard of "Norwegian Salsa" or "Norwegian Hot Sauce"?
Apparently, they are names that have been given to ketchup here in Minnesota. No lie, here are two of those comments on the thread:
Don't act like that didn't make you smile or even chuckle a bit. How can you not? Every state and everyone has their own shortcomings and here in Minnesota it's our lack of spice. Not everyone is like that, trust me I know, but hey if you can't beat it, might as well join in on the joke and have some with it here in "Blandnavia"! Do you have other names for ketchup I haven't heard of before? Share that with me in our app, would love to hear from you.
