When it comes to safety behind the wheel, only three other states are safer than we are here in Minnesota.

Driving is one of the most inherently risky things we do each day, right? Whether it's Mother Nature throwing some rain, ice or snow at us, the distracted driving phenomenon or the fact that we're propelling ourselves down the road at a high rate of speed, there are many ways driving can harm us.

But here's some good news: You're more likely to be safe when you're on the road here in Minnesota. That's the word, relatively speaking, anyway, from this new survey by the team at Edwards Kirby. They recently collected data for risk factors associated with motor vehicle accidents and fatalities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. They were able to pull together the data to determine which states are the most dangerous for drivers-- and which ones are the safest.

And the good news is that Minnesota ranks as the 4th safest state for drivers in the country. In fact, only Hawaii, New York, and Washington, D.C. rank as safer places for drivers than we do here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. According to the survey, the safest states for drivers generally had lower serious injury and fatality rates, lower speed limits, and fewer DUI reports.

So, yeah, go Minnesota! Just watch out, though, if your travels this year (now that we can actually travel again-- and, btw, if you want some extra CASH to take that vacation, click HERE for your shot to grab $10,000!) take you to parts of the south, including states like Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee-- they're the top three most dangerous states for drivers. (Wyoming is in that group too.) Even our neighbors to the south in Iowa are rated more dangerous for drivers than we are in Minnesota, coming in as the 16th most dangerous state for drivers.

And if you ARE going to pack the family in the car and head out on a big road trip this year, one thing to keep in mind is that gas prices in Minnesota are the highest we've seen in several years. (Which is even more reason to click HERE for your chance to win up to $10,000!) But do you remember how CHEAP gas was when you first started driving? Keep scrolling to check out the price of gasoline the year you first got your driver's license!
