It usually takes a few minutes to find something that's been misplaced, right? A piece of history was found after being lost for 21 years!

When I misplace something, it usually only takes me a few minutes to find it again. I can kinda figure out the last place I had whatever it was, and I retrace my steps.

I'm always amazed when I see a story about something being packed away, or misfiled or lost and then later found years later. Like this:

Buddy Holly's signature glasses were specifically picked out by his optometrist for his "look." In 1959, when the plane Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper were in crashed, his glasses were part of the scattered debris. They were buried in the snow and not collected right away. Until that Spring, when the snow melted.

They were found and put into an envelope with The Big Bopper's watch and marked "rec'd April 7, 1959". And left.

Until February 29th, 1980. Sheriff Jerry Allen opened the envelope with the glasses. They were returned to his widow and are now on display in the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, TX.

It's just amazing that a piece of history was just sitting in an envelope for twenty-one years.
