Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Over 100 customers of Rochester Public Utilities were left without power following a traffic crash this morning.

The Rochester Police and Fire Departments responded around 10:30 AM to the 3100 block of 19th Street Northwest after a minivan crashed into an energized power pole. The high-voltage power lines fell to the ground, but an RPU employee was able to determine the wires were no longer “hot.”

The driver of the minivan had been removed from the smashed vehicle by bystanders before emergency responders arrived at the scene, but because of the potential risk, the roadway was closed to traffic between Lourdes High School and the Rochester Athletic Club, which was among the RPU customers affected by the outage.

The driver of the minivan was transported to St. Marys Hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
