Minneapolis, MN (Learfield Wire Services/TTWN Media Networks) -- A Swiss chemical firm has reached a settlement with 22-thousand Minnesota farmers on claims that its genetically modified corn seed was contaminated.

Syngenta agreed to a settlement today (Tuesday) during a state trial in Minneapolis on the farmers' lawsuit. The amount they'll receive was not immediately disclosed. The farmers sought 400-million dollars in damages after they alleged that Syngenta took its G-M-O seed to market too quickly. It allegedly contaminated U-S crops and caused China to reject imports of the product.

The firm denied causing harm.
