When that sweet tooth takes over, where do you go for dessert?  I'm not talking about a Snicker's that you can buy at a gas station.  I'm talking about a good, quality dessert that everyone swears is "the best".  I'll share one of my favorites below but unfortunately, it is one that just landed on the list of the top overrated dessert chains in the United States.

Most Overrated Dessert Chains in The United States Just Announced

A blow to the sugar-loving world appeared recently when the the top 7 overrated dessert chains were announced by Lacey Muszynski at Cheapism.  And if you live in Minnesota, there is a really good chance you've tasted or heard of one of these top chains because we've got 5 of them in our state right now.  We did have all 7 though, so you may have had a taste of them all.

1.  Baskin Robbins

1945 was when this ice cream dream started.  They did something unique though and instead of offering the traditional vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream like everyone else, they ventured with a new idea - 31 flavors!

Minnesota has quite a few Baskin Robbins locations that you can find here.

2.  Crumbl

Oh, Crumbl.  I'm going to be blunt with this one because lately, I have been extremely disappointed in this company and it all started when they took the pink sugar cookie out of the list you could get every week.  That was my favorite.  I am bitter.

I did love Crumbl a lot though.  I was a Crumbl hype girl.  And yes, the price is pretty ridiculous for one cookie.  But I'm not heating up my oven when I'm driving around town so if Crumbl wants to heat theirs up for me...awesome.  However, the addition of all types of desserts isn't doing it for me.  Last time I went was in April for my birthday when I got my free birthday treat.  You know you can get a free cookie, right?  If not, check out this list of birthday freebies in Minnesota.  Lots of fun food and drinks just waiting for you to enjoy on your special day.

3. Nothing Bundt Cakes

I don't think this dessert chain deserves to be on this list at all.  Not only are their cakes absolutely delicious but they also give back in big ways to communities.  I go to a ton of fundraisers for nonprofits and one auction item that I can almost guarantee to see is a Nothing Bundt Cake basket.  I've even won one...and also helped drive the price up for a few others.

Companies that help others deserve positive recognition and although some may not like the price tag on these cakes, I appreciate the generosity I have seen from this company.  Plus, the quality of your cakes is amazing.  Please keep making more.

4.  Krispy Kreme

"Hot Now" is what you are looking for if you want a Krispy Kreme donut that is fresh.  Minnesota has had Krispy Kreme donut shops in the past but since they were missing, a college student back in 2019 actually drove to Iowa.  According to CBSNews.com, he didn't just buy one box though.  He bought 100 boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts and then resold them in Minnesota to fans.  The goal was to help pay off his college bills.  Not sure what the status is now on the donut driver but according to that story, Krispy Kreme told him he had to stop.

Are Krispy Kreme donuts worth driving to another state?  Apparently, they aren't that overrated if people were doing that and selling the boxes for $17 to $20 each.

5.  Cold Stone Creamery

My kids' favorite ice cream cakes are from Cold Stone Creamery!  It's always fun to watch the ice cream get made in front of you on the stone.  I'm glad that I'm not the one who has to clean up every day but that is also why you go to a place like this...to enjoy the experience and the taste without the mess at your house.

If you haven't been to a Cold Stone in a bit, you can find locations throughout the United States at the Cold Stone Creamery website.

6.  Mochinut

Do you love funnel cakes?  If so, you'll probably love biting into a Mochinut donut.  Quite a few Mochinut locations have popped up in Minnesota lately and if you live in Rochester, there is a special deal where you can get 1/2 off gift certificates at seizethedeal.com.

7.  Menchie's

I'm getting some T.C.B.Y. vibes from this place.  Menchie's Frozen Yogurt has cakes, smoothies, dishes, and even acai bowls that you can enjoy.  Sadly, Minnesota doesn't currently have any Menchie's but it looks like there were a few at one time.  Next time you go on a road trip though, check the Menchie's Frozen Yogurt website to see if you are near one.  It might be a fun treat to enjoy while on the road.
