Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Traffic on southbound Highway 52 in Rochester was backed up for miles early this evening after a pedestrian attempted to cross the highway and was struck by a car.

The State Patrol says the pedestrian,  identified as 27-year-old Joseph Hoeft of Grand Meadow, was rushed to St. Marys Hospital with what were described as life threatening injuries. The car was being driven by 22-year-old Iziah Grendahl of Rochester. He was was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt.

The State Patrol report on the incident indicates alcohol was not involved.  It occurred just south of the 6th Street Southwest exit around 5:30 PM.
