Richfield, MN (KROC AM News) - There was a tense situation at a Twin Cities high school Friday morning.

The Richfield Police Dept. was contacted by the Richfield High School principal around 6:30 am “regarding a potential threat to the school.”

According to the department, the principal said staff “was made aware of a photograph circulating on social media depicting a RHS student, wearing RHS clothing, holding a gun with the caption, “We’re on our way.”

The principal decided to cancel classes for the day and police officers were immediately sent to the school. The department says around 8:00 am, the student who was seen in the threatening post came to the police station with a parent and met with investigators.

The department says the 17-year-old student and parent were fully cooperative. Investigators learned the picture was taken in March, the gun was not a real firearm, and that someone other than the depicted student added the caption and distributed the image on social media.

The incident remains under active investigation. Investigators do not believe there are any additional risks or concerns to our community regarding this incident.
