Preston Man Involved in Chase Has Long Criminal History
Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Preston man arrested following a high speed chase in a stolen police car on Thursday has an extensive criminal history that includes an attempted murder conviction in 1997.
38-year-old Daniel Zuehlke was arrested following a pursuit that started in Mankato when police attempted to arrest him on an arrest warrant from Fillmore County, where he failed to appear at his sentencing hearing on criminal sexual conduct charges.
After being tazed by an officer, Zuehlke still managed to steal a Mankato Police SUV and lead law officers on a nearly 25 mile chase at speeds approaching 130 miles per hour that ended when he ran over some stop sticks near Waldorf and was tazed for a second time when he attempted to flee on foot.
The 1997 attempted murder conviction stemmed from an attempted robbery in Mankato during which the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his buttocks as he attempted to flee from the would-be robber. Zuehlke was arrested nearby after the responding Mankato Police officers tracked the footprints in the fresh snow.
He ended up with a nearly 17 year prison sentence.
