Pursued Man Stabs K9 in Wabasha County
Wabasha, MN (KROC AM News) - A man who got away from an Olmsted County deputy Thursday was later caught in Wabasha County - after stabbing a police dog.
The man - identified as 27-year-old Shane Cronin - was spotted in Stewartville around 1:30 p.m. and a patrol deputy tried pulling him over for a traffic violation. Cronin refused to stop and headed south on Highway 63. The deputy ended the pursuit when Cronin crossed into Mower County.
He was later spotted in Goodhue County.
The pursuit then went into Wabasha County, where Cronin ditched his vehicle and fled on foot. The Goodhue County K9 went after him and during a struggle, Cronin stabbed the dog. Officers eventually took Cronin into custody and he was treated for his injuries. The K9 underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
Cronin - whose last known address was in Lake City - has an extensive criminal history and was wanted on an Olmsted County warrant.
According to the Lake City Police Dept., Cronin was arrested in 2013 as a suspect in a series of thefts and burglaries. According to Lake City police,
"His arrest came after he fled on foot, gained entry into an occupied house and attached garage where he hid in a vehicle. He was eventually taken into custody with assistance from a Goodhue County K9 unit, the Wabasha County Sheriff’s office and the Minnesota State Patrol."
