Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester will have a new mayor Monday.

Mayor-elect Kim Norton is scheduled to be sworn in during a special inauguration event at the Mayo Civic Center. Norton says it may be a few weeks before she has a secretary/receptionist in her office as candidates need to be interviewed before one is hired. Norton says the person will be given responsibilities that will include more community and development outreach. Norton has committed to continuing some traditions of past mayors, including the medal of honor awards. She says she has also been approached by some city council members who offered to represent the city at some of the functions mayors have been asked to attend in the past.

Joining Norton at the inauguration event will be Councilmember Nick Campion who was re-elected to another term and new members Patrick Keane and Shaun Palmer. The event will be open to the public.

According to city administration:

“ This event marks the first time in recent City history a formal inauguration will take place other than swearing in elected officials at their first official meeting. This is being done to allow an opportunity for the community as a whole to be engaged and participate in the celebration of our new City leaders. In addition to the oaths of office, the gathering will feature musical performances and readings by community members.”

Steve Rymer, City Administrator states, “We invite all community members to join us for this important and exciting gathering. It is an opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate another point in Rochester history, and participate in an important part of our democratic process.”

The event will also be streamed live via the City of Rochester website and rebroadcast on Channel 180.
