Rochester Awarded $3.1 Million Main Street Revitalization Grant
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The City of Rochester has been awarded more than $3.1 million through the first round of the state's Main Street Grant program.
The money is coming from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, which created the program using federal COVID relief funds, to assist central business districts in communities throughout the state as they recover from the pandemic. The first round of grants awarded through the program total about $40 million and were spread across eight Minnesota communities.
“Following the initial shock of the pandemic, Rochester’s downtown business community responded with innovation, creativity, and determination. This grant program is yet another tool to support Rochester’s recovery,” said Patrick Seeb, Executive Director of Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency. “Think of this as an economic booster shot.”
A news release from the City of Rochester and the Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency says the Rochester program "will provide capital investment for downtown businesses and property owners who do not have sufficient capital to open, adjust, or expand operations." Priority will be given to businesses owned or operated by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).
The Destination Medical Center will administer the local program. More information concerning eligibility and the application process will be announced in coming weeks.
