Rochester High School Hosting Walk Through Luminary Event for Relay for Life

One of my favorite memories with my kids is when we helped set up luminaries for Relay for Life.  Every single bag had a special memory, photos, or name of a person that fought hard against cancer.  A few of those bags even made me choke up a bit.

My sister lost her fight to cancer when she was just 12 years old.  Her 2 1/2 year struggle is one I will never forget.  Thankfully, we had a community around us that helped us through each step, and honestly, without those individuals, I have no idea how we would have gotten through that low point in our lives.

Seeing the faces of other kids, their names and princess photos on the luminaries reminded me of my sister.  I know that so many families are going through that same fight right now and seeing support throughout the community is what they need.  Having a child that is sick is tough.  Having a child that is sick during COVID-19 is a whole new nightmare.

I just learned about the new walk-through luminary ceremony that will be happening at Mayo High School on August 22nd from 7:30pm - 9:00pm.  There is usually a big 'ol event happening at one of the high schools at Rochester Public Schools but because of COVID-19, plans have had to change.  This is one event you need to put your mask on for though and come out because it truly is amazing and your support is needed.

Come out and support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Rochester Public Schools. This year due to the COVID epidemic, we will not be hosting our annual physical Relay for life.
In Place of our Relay for Life, we wanted to still take the time to remember our survivors, caregivers, and the ones we have lost to cancer by having a walk through luminary ceremony.
As a committee, we will be pre-selling luminaries and will be selling luminary the night of the event.
