Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - An unusual crime involving the theft of jewelry that was first reported in Rochester two years ago is back in the news.

A 60-year-old Rochester man is the apparent latest victim.

He contacted police Wednesday to report he was in the parking lot of the south Walmart store last Saturday when he was victimized.

The man says a couple approached and indicated they wanted him to try on some necklaces and put them on the victim. The man said the couple then got into a black van and drove off, leaving the jewelry behind. The man later realized his gold necklace was missing. It was valued at $1500. The necklaces he had been given were fake.

Several similar thefts were reported to police last year and in 2020.

Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says like most of the earlier thefts, the latest incident involved an older Asian victim.
