Rochester, MN ( KROC News ) - Preliminary numbers show this year’s Rochester Polar Plunge raised around $210,000, about the same as the 2014 event.

A total of 862 plungers participated this year, also close to last year’s number. Plungers were given the opportunity to jump Friday evening to avoid Saturday’s even colder weather but only 60 showed up.

The jumping began at 1:30 p.m. Saturday when the air temperature was zero and the wind chill reading was around -20. A tent was set up to act as a tunnel for the participants so they did not have to endure the frigid weather while waiting for their turn to jump.

The event was completed a few hours later and organizers say there were no reported problems or mishaps. The 18th annual event was held at Rochester’s Foster-Arend Park.

Proceeds go to Special Olympics Minnesota.
