rochester, MN  ( KROC AM News) -  Two occupied houses and a vehicle in a Silver Lake Park area neighborhood were hit by bullets early Friday.

Rochester police officers were sent to the 10 block of 8th St NE about a block east of the Samaritan Bethany nursing home around 3 a.m. and found more than a dozen shell casings in the street.

It was determined one of the houses that was shot at was hit by six bullets. Police Captain John Sherwin says several adult males in the house were up at the time. One of the bullets penetrated the home but they were not hurt. A bullet also penetrated the other house.

It’s not known if the shots were fired from a car or by someone on foot. A witness reported seeing three hooded suspects in the area at the time of the shooting.

An Olmsted County deputy who was patrolling in the area at the time saw a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. The deputy stopped the vehicle, which was occupied by two men in their early 20’s. After the men were identified, they were allowed to leave.

Sherwin says investigators will be busy trying to learn the motive for the shooting and identify suspects.
