Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The first significant snowstorm of the winter season brought just under of 8 inches of snow to t he National Weather Service station at the Rochester Airport.

The highest snowfall total in the region was 10-inches in the Zumbro Falls area, while 9.3-inches was reported in Winona. Most other areas of southeastern Minnesota saw 5 to 8 inches of accumulation.

Statewide, the Minnesota Department of Transportation says the inclement weather contributed to over 700 traffic crashes, but as of late Sunday night, no fatalities had been reported.

The snowstorm will pull a mass of arctic air into the region by Monday night. The latest forecasts predict the first sub-zero readings of the winter, with lows ten below zero with dangerously cold wind chills by mid-week.
