Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It was a disturbing scene in downtown Rochester Tuesday.

Police began receiving 911 calls around 1:30 p.m. about a woman who was pushing a young child in a stroller in the Peace Plaza area. The callers reported seeing the woman hitting the child and shaking the stroller as she moved through the downtown.

Officers arrived to find citizens and a Mayo Clinic security employee intervening and discovered the 16-month-old boy was unresponsive. The boy was taken to St. Marys Hospital where he was checked out and later turned over to his parents.

Police Captain John Sherwin says because of a language barrier, officers were not able to get any information from the woman before she was taken into custody.

Arrested was 56-year-old Ya Yu.
