Los Angeles, CA (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Twins issued a statement Friday that indicates Rod Carew is resting comfortably after undergoing a 13 hour long heart and kidney transplant operation at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The team says the baseball legend is expected to make full recovery.

Carew was placed on the transplant list after he suffered a heart attack in September of last year and doctors placed him on an external device to assist his failing heart keep pumping until a donor organ became available.

While he was ailing, Carew and his wife joined with the Minnesota Twins organization to create the Heart of 29 Campaign to raise money for the American Heart Association and raise awareness of heart disease and heart failure.
