A major Rochester roadway was closed Friday morning due to flooding caused by the heavy overnight rain. The Rochester Police Dept. says southbound Highway 63 between the Highway 52 interchange and County Rd 16 near the airport was closed around 4:30 AM. There was heavy flooding at 48th St and several vehicles became stranded.

The Rochester airport has received nearly 5 inches of rain since midnight.  The NWS says 4 to 7 inches has fallen across portions of Dodge, Olmsted, and Fillmore Counties, resulting in flash flooding.

The overnight storms also led to power outages in Rochester. RPU crews have been busy for several hours restoring service. Hundreds were affected at the peak of the outages.
