St. Louis Man Admits to Stealing from Father in Rochester

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A man from St. Louis, Missouri has pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge involving the theft of money from his father, who lives in an Olmsted County assisted living facility and has been classified as a vulnerable adult. As a result of a plea agreement reached Friday afternoon in Olmsted County Court, 5 other felony charges against 36-year-old David Graves were dismissed.

Graves was put in charge of his father’s bank account in order to pay his father’s bills and records show he began withdrawing funds in 2012. By the time authorities were contacted, the total had grown to $86,000 through the end of last year. He is accused of using $59,000 for his personal use.

His father told investigators he agreed to help pay his son’s bills after he lost his job but did not give him permission to take all his money. Graves told investigators he used the money to buy drugs, mainly methamphetamine.

He is scheduled to be sentenced May 11th.
