The Minnesota State Patrol gave a tip of their cap yesterday to emergency dispatchers. It was an emergency dispatcher that had helped a State Patrol officer track down a speeding motorcyclist after abandoning the chase after the motorcycle hits speeds in excess of 130 MPH.

The event, which happened last month according to the post, ended after dispatchers followed the speeding motorcyclist using highway traffic cameras and relaying the location of the motorcyclist ahead to local police in Cannon Falls.

The driver was cited on Highway 52 by the Cannon Falls Police Department for speeding.

The post also reminds Minnesota motorists that there is extra speed enforcement on Minnesota roads.

According to the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety: "Preliminary reports show 76 people died on Minnesota roads with at least 31 related to speed. The 31 speed-related deaths compared with 18 this time last year."

Recent Minnesota speed-related fatalities include:

  • A 44-year-old man who was going 65 in a 55 mph zone on a gravel county road in Marshall County with severe crosswinds, ran off the road.  The un-belted driver was ejected through the windshield and died at the scene.
  • A 35-year-old male driver going an estimated 100 mph in a 55 mph zone in Jackson County. He ran off the road at a curve, went into a ditch and rolled the car multiple times.
  • A 16-year old girl died when an 18-year-old driver going an estimated 70 mph in a 55 mph zone in Todd County ran a stop sign and lost control.
  • A 17-year-old boy died when the vehicle he was riding in and driven by another 17-year-old crashed.
