Stewartville Man Gets Probation For Hammer Attack
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Stewartville man is being given a chance to stay out of prison for his conviction on a felony assault charge stemming from a hammer attack on a woman in late January.
45-year-old Kenneth Hartmark pleaded guilty to a 3rd-degree assault charge last month and was sentenced Monday to 5 years probation. He was also ordered to pay over $1300 in restitution to the victim, who according to the criminal complaint, suffered a broken jaw and some teeth, a broken finger, and lacerations on her head.
Hartmark told Olmsted County deputies that he had been using methamphetamine and does not recall attacking the woman. He also stated that he woke up to find her bleeding and called 911 at around 6 in the morning on January 30th. The victim, who could not speak at the time, indicated in a written statement that she was struck on the head from behind.
3 grams of methamphetamine were also found in the residence where the assault took place and Hartmark also pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge in the case. He was given a stay of adjudication for that conviction, which means it will be erased from his record if he successfully completes his probation.
