St Paul, MN (KROC AM News) - Superintendent Michael Munoz discussed the racial disparity issue concerning discipline in the Rochester School District during his regular appearance on Wednesday morning with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell during the Rochester Today Show.

The school district has been facing criticism in the wake of the release of report by the federal Office of Civil Rights that shows minority students are disciplined at rates that are disproportionately high when compared to white students. While the report found there was no wrongdoing by the district, the agency and the Rochester Public Schools entered into an agreement that mandates steps be taken to address the disparity.

That challenge has prompted the district to plan for a number of community input sessions in hopes of gathering suggestions on workable solutions to the problem and comments about the changes made to the school district's discipline handbook. A community outreach committee of the School Board is also planning to hold meetings aimed at fielding suggestions from citizens and discussing possible fixes.

The YouTube video at the top of the post feature's Superintendent Munoz on the Rochester Today show sharing some statistics that show just how few of the district's 17,000 students are actually getting into trouble.
