Vacation Safety Tip: Unplug These 8+ Items In Your Home Before You Leave

Your flight is booked, your suitcase is packed, and you have checked...and double-checked...to make sure that you aren't forgetting anything before you head out on vacation.

Before you shut that front door and lock it, there is one more thing that I'd suggest adding to your to-do list.  Not only will this help you save a little bit of money while you are off enjoying your vacation, but this to-do list could save your home from a fire.

Before You Go On A Vacation - Unplug These Items At Your Home

Have you ever heard of the phrase "energy vampires"?  The Department of Energy estimates that if we unplugged appliances when we aren't using them, we'd save about 10% on our monthly energy bill.  If you are going to be gone for a bit, there are a few items that are well worth the time (and money) to pull the plug on.

Pulling the plug on the items below before you leave on a vacation isn't just about saving money - it is also about reducing the risk of a fire.  Every year in the United States, about 30,000 electrical fires are reported.  It would be horrible to experience a house fire.  It would be even worse if this happened while you were on vacation.

Take five minutes, walk through your house, and unplug these items before you leave.

If you have any extension cords or power strips that don't need to be used while you are away, those are also important items to unplug.
