Minnesota is home to Paul Bunyan, Mayo Clinic, Target, and so many lakes we had to stop counting at 10,000. (Just kidding, we actually have 11,842 lakes.)
We are also a state that is in love with our pets. In fact, about 36% of Minnesota households own at least one dog according to Pet Advocacy Network.
When winter hits, there is one huge challenge that dog owners in Minnesota face. The tip below may be the trick you need to get through the harsh temperatures Mother Nature throws our way this year.

Amazing Winter Tip For Dog Owners in Minnesota
I know that about 46 million households out there in the United States are cat lovers. At my house though, we've got the more popular animal, according to Forbes: dogs.
We don't skimp on the size either - for many years we loved our 100 lb. Yellow Lab, Indy. Sadly, he recently got pretty sick crossed the rainbow bridge. But our other furry friend is loving all of the attention...and since he is a 150+ lb. St. Bernard, he pushes his way in for some petting very easily.
Our St. Bernard loves to go outside! Winter in Minnesota is his happy place and he wants to be outside as much as possible. However, when he taps at the door to let us know he wants to go out, we started to run into an issue with his leash - it was always frozen solid during the winter or getting lost in the latest snowfall.
If you own a dog and use a leash outside, here's a tip for you to help keep those outside leashes visible AND easy to use during the winter - add a nail near your door that is off the ground a little bit.
When your dog comes back inside, just hook the leash over the nail. It's not fancy but it makes finding the leash in the snow super easy AND it is never frozen shut.
I'm sure we aren't the first humans to figure out this tip, but it did take us a few years of owning a dog before this nail was added.
Got Another Pet Tip That People Should Know?
On my radio show that goes across the country, fans are always chatting with me on our app about their pets. I've heard so many stories of cats knocking over Christmas trees, dogs thinking that human food is their only meal option, and the dilemma of dogs hogging the bed at night.
If you've got a pet tip that works, I'd love to hear it! It might be the perfect tip for a fan of the show. Send me a message to my Facebook page - Jessica On The Radio, or DM me on Instagram.
