Milwaukee (KROC AM News) - The Milwaukee Police Department has confirmed a missing 2-year-old girl is dead and her remains have been found in Minnesota.

The department made the announcement late Saturday morning as it canceled the Amber Alert that had been issued earlier this week for Noelani Robinson. The department says a preliminary identification of the remains was made by family members.

The Amber Alert was later expanded to include Austin, MN after it was learned she had been in the area during the last 30 days. The girl’s father was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murdering her mother two days earlier.

According to the Associated Press, Milwaukee police Chief Alfonso Morales told reporters an off-duty public works employee found a child's body inside a blanket on the shoulder of Highway 218 north of Austin Friday night. He said it's believed to be that of the toddler and an autopsy will be conducted. He said it appears the body had been there for "quite some time."
