WATCH: Local Naval Officer Christens Newest Naval Vessel
In a local twist to the news of the latest Naval Ship heading onto the high seas, the USS Minneapolis-St. Paul, a Northfield naval officer had the honor to crack a bottle of champagne on the hull as it slid sideways into the water. Check out the video!
Christening the ship was Northfield-native Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy Jodi J. Greene, she had the honor of smashing a bottle of champagne against its bow.
According to online Naval ship records, this is the second ship named Minneapolis-St. Paul. The first was a Los Angeles-class attack submarine that served from 1984 to 2008.
