Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - For the first time ever, Mayo Clinic will match every donation made to the Rochester Salvation Army’s red kettles Thursday and Friday.

Mayo has made maximum matching grants in past years but this marks the first time it will match every donation during the two days.

So what happens if a huge donation - say a million dollars - is made? We put that question to Erin Sexton, Mayo’s director of Enterprise Community Engagement and she said, " If somebody is that inspired to give, that would be a great thing."

The Salvation Army is one of several Olmsted County nonprofits receiving a year-end contribution from Mayo. All organizations receiving funding support those most in need in the community.

"We are so grateful to Mayo Clinic for their continued support and for this exceptionally generous gift," says Maj. Robert Mueller, corps officer of The Salvation Army. "These programs are life-changing to those individuals and families utilizing our services. By matching the dollars in the kettle, Mayo Clinic is helping bring hope and healing to thousands of our neighbors in need."

"This time of year can be especially challenging for people in our community for many reasons," says Sexton. "Mayo Clinic is pleased to be able to provide additional support to help residents with food security and shelter, as well as outreach to children and families to brighten their holidays."
