Work Expected To Begin Soon On New Rochester Park And Ride
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Construction work is expected to begin in the near future on Rochester’s newest Park and Ride facility.
This one will primarily benefit motorists coming to Rochester from the north.
It will be constructed at the southwest quadrant of the 75th St NW/ Highway 52 interchange and it will be the first Park and Ride operation that is owned by the city as it leases the other sites.
Supporters say the operation will lessen the pressure on the park and ride site at the former IBM campus which the city says “is constantly overfilled.” The city leases 667 parking stalls at that site and it’s believed at least 60% of the users drive from locations north of Rochester.
Staff says those users “would potentially use the new site” which will have a capacity of nearly 500 vehicles.
Most of the money to pay for the project ($1.6-million) will come from a federal grant.
The city has been awarded a $4.3-million grant to pay for various Rochester Public Transit projects, including the replacement of 55 bus shelters.
Additional improvements include improved signage, benches, waste receptacles, and improved digital rider information systems at key locations.
