Marshall, MN (KROC AM News) - A young girl who was shot in the head at a residence in southwest Minnesota earlier this week has died.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday that the 9-year-old had been airlifted to a hospital.

The sheriff’s office reported Thursday that the girl “passed away from her injuries in the overnight hours Tuesday.”

The report said while the investigation “into the circumstances of this tragic incident remain ongoing, the matter has been classified as accidental in nature.” The report also said, “ Out of respect and privacy for the victim and her family, there will be no further updates regarding this incident.”

The shooting took place at a residence in rural Lynd, near Marshall.

The girl’s death came just a few days after a young boy was fatally shot in Minneapolis. The 10-year-old boy was shot late Friday night in an apartment. Police said preliminary information indicated that the victim was alone with another juvenile family member at the time of the shooting.
