Successful Drives for Rochester Food Bank
Rochester, MN (KROC News) - Channel One is reporting the collection of nearly 50,000 pounds of food from two recent drives involving scouts and high school students.
The annual Boy Scouts door-to-door collection in Rochester last weekend brought in more than 16,000 pounds.
The 8th annual drive conducted by high schools in the Channel One service area brought in nearly 33,000 pounds of food and more than $4,000 in cash donations. A total of 16 schools participated this year.
According to Channel One, the Student Food Drive is designed to engage students in a meaningful service project that will have a direct effect on their community. It also helps build leadership skills, civic engagement, and an understanding of the need found in their own communities.
"This was the first year that I have done the student food drive as the faculty advisor. In the past, another staff person has been in charge. It was all new to me, but I had so much fun with it. The students learned about leadership, stewardship, and our community. We even visited Channel One. We set our fundraising goal high because there is a huge need in our community, and we really felt like we were making a difference. We could not have done it without the support of the Century students and staff, and we are excited for next year already,” shared Cindy Heim, Work Seminar Class Teacher, Century High School.
