Heartbreaking News Shared By Como Park Zoo in Minnesota
Every year, about 2 million people visit the free, Como Park Zoo in Minnesota. Earlier this spring, excitement had sprung for fans due to a brand new baby sloth that was born at the attraction. Sadly, this zoo, which was founded in 1897, just shared some heartbreaking news.
In the world of animal care, there are incredible highs and heartbreaking lows—and this week, we’ve experienced both. We are deeply saddened to share that the baby sloth, born April 2, was found unresponsive earlier this week in the sloth habitat and is believed to have passed away overnight on Sunday/Monday. This loss has touched our entire team. A necropsy will help us better understand the cause, and until then, we are focused on supporting one another and the animals in our care. - Como Park Zoo & Conservatory Facebook Page

GOOD NEWS: Another Baby Has Arrived at Como Park Zoo in Minnesota
While the emotions were raw due to the loss of the baby sloth, a bit of good news also surfaced at the Como Park Zoo facility. According to the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory Facebook Page, a brand new baby Emperor tamarin was born.
At the same time, we are grateful to share a joyful moment: the birth of a baby Emperor tamarin, named Bleu! Bleu is the first offspring of mom Ilsamar and dad Reggiano, and all are doing well in their habitat. Emperor tamarins are remarkable parents—the father plays a big role in raising the young, carrying the baby on his back for the first several weeks.
The baby is ready for visitors now! If you'd love to catch a glimpse of baby Bleu, you can find the entire family in the Primate Building. Como Park Zoo just reminds visitors to be respectful when they are observing. Tapping or banging on the glass can be stressful for the animals.
See photos and additional info about the new arrival at the Como Park Zoo website.
