Another Record Year For MSP

Minneapolis (KROC AM News) - For the first time ever, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport handled more than 39-million passengers in 2019 - about 107,000 per day.

MPS is reporting 39,555,036 passengers flew to or from the airport last year. That’s a 4-percent increase from 2018 and marked the third consecutive record year based on total passengers using the airport.

“A strong economy along with new routes and increased airline competition continues to propel demand for air travel,” said Metropolitan Airports Commission CEO Brian Ryks. “Hub carrier Delta Air Lines and its affiliates carried 4 percent more passengers at MSP in 2019 while Sun Country increased its passenger numbers by more than 22 percent, helping set the pace for a record year.”

Meanwhile, more improvements are planned at MSP this year. They include:

- Expansion of the Terminal 1 ticketing lobby and baggage claim levels
- Check-in areas and airline and other tenant offices will also expand in the ticketing       lobby providing passenger check-in and operational space for employees
- New restrooms are also slated to open in the ticketing lobby

MSP is the 17th busiest U.S. airport for passengers and 12th for aircraft operations. It's also a base for hometown carrier Sun Country Airlines and Delta Air Lines' second largest hub.
