Burger King made a big splash with their "Real Meals" as an answer to McDonald's Happy Meals. Meals with 'moody names." You can get the...and I swear these are the real names of the meals...Pissed Meal, Blue Meal, Salty Meal, YAAAS Meal, and DGAF Meal. Are they different? Naw...they're each a whopper, fries, and drink meal.

Maybe you know I deal with depression and anxiety and wonder what I think of the whole thing. I'll tell you, but first, let's see where you can gettem.

NOT in Rochester. Not even in Minnesota. They're only available in five locations...and no plans to take 'em nationwide.

  • 3301 Fourth Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98134
  • 474 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10018
  • 4918 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90027
  • 6000 FM 969, Austin, TX 78724
  • 1100 - 5th Street, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Why so few locations? Two reasons...one, it's a nod to May being Mental Health Awareness month. and B, it's a marketing stunt.

What do I think about it?

Burger King partnered with Mental Health America and branded #FeelYourWay as part of the whole thing. I'd never heard of Mental Health America, but it goes back to the early 1900s and on Charity Navigator, it's rated 3 out of 4 stars overall, 3 for financials, and 4 for programs. So they seem pretty legit.

I feel the same as I do about the constant use of Prince to make money here in Minnesota. It's great to see him remembered, but they're not doing it to "remember Prince" they're doing it to make money.

Just like BK. Only in this case, there is real value in the effort as they make money off a topic as serious as Mental Health Awareness. It gets the message out with a reach most non-profits just don't have. As a member of the NAMI-Southeast Minnesota, I totally get the awesomeness of the number of people that'll see the message that it's OK not to be happy.

ps - just because I'm not terribly bothered by it doesn't mean others that are wrong when they object. Different people, different perspectives.
