St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM NEWS) - An annual report compiled by the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women lists the names of 21 people who died in the state last year as the result of domestic violence.

The 2016 Femicide Report indicates 18 of the victims were women killed in cases where the suspected murderer was a former or current husband, boyfriend or other male intimate partner. Two of the victims were children killed by their father during an episode of domestic violence that included an attempt to kill their mother. The other victim was a bystander caught up in a domestic violence incident. The organization says the circumstances surrounding two other deaths are still under review.

The death toll last year was down significantly from 2015, when 34 deaths in Minnesota were blamed on domestic violence. It was also the lowest total since 2012, when the Femicide Report listed 18 domestic violence deaths.
