St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Total employment in the Rochester area is approaching the record levels reported last summer.

The latest jobs data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows employment in Olmsted County exceeded 82,500 in April. That’s only about 100 below the all-time high reached last August, which is the time of the year that seasonal factors cause a peak in employment.

The unemployment rate for April was down over a half-point to 2.8-percent, which is two-tenths of a point below the jobless rate from April of last year.

Olmsted County continued to enjoy the lowest unemployment rate in the region in April, while Dodge County saw the largest drop. Its jobless rate fell nearly two full points to 3.1-percent.
