The founder of the Olmsted Medical Center died over the weekend. Dr. Harold Wente was 92-years-old.

OMC got its start in 1949 when Dr. Wente opened his clinic in downtown Rochester. It has since grown into a regional healthcare provider with a full-service hospital in Rochester and patient care facilities in 16 locations throughout southeastern Minnesota.

A statement issued by OMC Monday included a tribute to Dr. Wente by Olmsted Medical Center President Dr. Kathryn Lombardo, “Dr. Wente set an extraordinary example for all of us. He believed that the patient comes first, and he was very proud of OMC's progress over the years.”

The funeral for Dr. Wente will take place Saturday morning at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. A visitation will be held Friday evening at the Macken Funeral Home.
