The other day I saw someone on Facebook bragging up this new local restaurant they found called Tender Shack. Now, I’m usually in the know when it comes to new businesses in town so I was surprised that I hadn’t heard of this place.

I Googled to find out more and quickly learned that Tender Shack isn’t a local restaurant, it’s a ghost kitchen owned and operated by Outback Steakhouse. Restaurant Business Online says Outback’s parent company has launched over 700 Tender Shacks and the company “believes the virtual brand, which specializes in chicken tenders and sandwiches, can generate $75 million in incremental sales this year.”

It’s not just Outback though, ghost kitchens have been popping up everywhere over the last year. These restaurants don’t have a physical location so you’d never know they exist unless you find them online. They typically rent space inside the kitchen of a restaurant that already exists and offers to-go or delivery only. I found a couple more by quicking searching DoorDash, UberEats, and Grub Hub.

COSMIC WINGS: is owned and operated by the company behind Applebee's and IHOP. Cosmic Wings specializes in Cheetos flavored wings and cheese bites. You can get them cheesy or flamin' hot.

THE BURGER DEN: Denny's launched their own virtual restaurant, The Burger Den, last month. They offer a variety of burgers and milkshakes.
