Heaviest Snow Predicted North and West of Rochester (UPDATED)
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service has been describing the weekend forecast for the Rochester area as "challenging."
Another powerful storm system is poised to hit Minnesota and areas to the north and west of Rochester are being told to expect up to a foot of heavy wet snow, but temperatures on Saturday may be warm enough in Rochester to keep some of the precipitation liquid. At this time, forecasters are saying 4-7 inches of snow could fall across southeastern Minnesota, while areas of northern Iowa and southern Wisconsin might see all rain from the system. The Rochester forecast, as of Friday afternoon, calls for a wintry mix that could change over to snow with accumulations predicted in the 3-5- inch range by Sunday morning.
Travel could still be difficult because of the potential for icing and slushy snow. The winter storm warning has been issued for areas north and west of Rochester as close as Goodhue County. Forecasters caution that even a small shift in the track of the storm could have a significant impact on the snowfall totals this weekend.
