Rochester’s Hunt Silver Lake Post Office Is Closing – And People Are Not Happy
To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. The United States Postal Service just terminated the contract at a spot in Rochester, Minnesota that our family uses the most.
Taxes, emergency mailing of my kids' passport, multiple holiday gifts...if we need to mail something, we always go to Hunt Silver Lake Postal Station.
Unfortunately, it appears that this service is ending.

After 67 Years, USPS Terminates Contract For Hunt Silver Lake Postal Station
The people in Rochester are losing an amazing asset. According to a Facebook post by Hunter Silver Lake Drug & Gift today, they have been informed that as of June 25th, 2026, the contract of the Post Office at 1510 N Broadway (Hunt Silver Lake) is terminated.
Hunts Silver Lake Postal Station has proudly served the community since 1959.
The USPS has decided to terminate the contract for this postal unit, forcing the closure of our postal substation. This decision is not related to any issues with our performance or compliance.
We feel this is a significant loss for our community and more substations may suffer the same fate. Make your voice heard. Reach out to your elected officials about the loss of this resource!
Who To Contact To Save This Postal Substation In Rochester, Minnesota
Based on the comments popping up on social media, I know I'm not the only one who is disappointed by this decision. People are upset. We ARE losing a huge asset in our community when this location closes.
Quite a few of the reasons people love the Hunt Silver Lake location more than the NW USPS location on Valleyhigh are very similar to my own:
- close parking (which parking in general has become a challenge at the Valleyhigh location)
- safe entrance and exit (my last visit at the Valleyhigh location had automatic doors at the entrance that were broken and loose/broken tiles - this was not safe for my family member who has challenges while walking.)
- shorter lines
- available supplies and working equipment
Hopefully we can reverse this decision - and if you'd like to help, here are the people to contact:
- Contracting Officer - Shaun Labay - Shaun.D.Labay@usps.gov
- U.S. Representative - Brad Finstad
- U.S. Senator - Amy Klobuchar
- U.S. Senator - Tina Smith
