About a week after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement showed up in Rochester, Minnesota and detained two individuals at a local eatery, that restaurant has given an update.

Restaurant in Rochester Impacted By ICE Gives New Update

News that ICE showed up and detained two individuals in Rochester spread quickly on Wednesday, February 12th.  As a result of that visit, Nupa, a Greek restaurant in Rochester, announced publicly that one of its two locations was going to be closed until further notice.

Unfortunately, we had two brothers working that may have been working under false documentation. From our understanding, ICE never asked for any documentation and arrested them in the parking lot. We are waiting to hear more. These two individuals accounted for many of our man hours. So we decided to close the South location and keep the North Store operating to fullfill caterings. Starting tomorrow Feb 13th. The Civic Center Drive location will remain closed until further notice and the South location will operate fully as we navigate staffing issues. Which may be difficult since we haven’t any new applicants in 4 years. - Nupa

Immigration Hearing Next Week For Nupa Employees in Rochester, Minnesota

Concern. Frustration. Anxiety. Support. Anger. Hate. Love. Empathy. Silence.  I've seen it all magnified in our community since.

For the restaurant that has been thrown in the spotlight, they are thankful for all of the support.  Nupa also recently gave an update about the immigration hearing set for one of their employees:

Update: as many of you know, two men were detained in our South location parking lot last week by ICE. The reason is still unknown. We have received word that an immigration hearing is set to take place next week for one of them. We plan to attend, if they’ll allow it. We have heard that some customers have also expressed interest in being present to show their support ❤️ Any presence in support of this gentleman, would be such a huge statement to his character and impact he has made on society. We cannot express how grateful we are to have the support that we have received from this community. We are truly blessed and praying from our heart of hearts that he is released and able to return to his family here.
For those who have asked how to support Nupa, continue visiting South/Crossroads. We are trying our best to give the best service. You may see some new faces! Some are former employees that have stepped up to temporarily fill in, and some are new hires. We are still seeking applicants for prep cooks, line cooks and servers. Please visit 412 Crossroads for an application.
As always, THANK YOU!
