St Paul, MN (KROC AM News)  -  Thursday is Give to the Max Day in Minnesota, giving Minnesotans a chance to donate to a favorite school or nonprofit organization.

This is the 8th year of the event, which is organized by GiveMN and supported by numerous foundations, corporations and individuals.

Its website allows Minnesotans to donate to any school or nonprofit of their choice. Donations went over $18-million during last year’s 24 hour event, nearly matching the record that was set the year before. Since the very first Give to the Max event in 2009, the organization has raised over $100 million for more than 10,000 Minnesota-based causes.

Donors can go to the GiveMN website - givemn.org - and look up the charity they want to support, or search for one that matches their values and interests. Many offer matching gifts.

“We see the generosity of Minnesotans year-round, but it is always amazing to see our neighbors come together on Give to the Max Day,” said Jake Blumberg, executive director of GiveMN. “Each year, we are amazed to hear stories about how every dollar, whether it be $10 or $10,000, makes a real impact to so many communities across our state.”

As of 7 a.m., donations had gone over $5-million.
