Halloween is just days away now, and one particular candy, popular with kids, can have a "devastating effect" on their teeth.

The Minnesota Dental Association is so concerned about these candies, that they have set up a public awareness campaign aimed at making sure parents are aware of the added dangers of this type of candy.

The campaign is called, "The Power of Sour on Your Teeth", and the goal is to let parents know about the nasty things that sour candy can do to teeth. The high amount of acid in these candies can severely weaken tooth enamel, leading to cavities and even tooth loss.

The Minnesota Dental Association says that some of the popular sour candy is so strong that it can burn your gums and cheeks, and on average, the attack on your teeth from the acid can last up to 20 minutes, longer if you're sucking or chewing.

If you want to minimize the effects of the acid from sour candy, the Minnesota Dental Association suggests eating some cheese, drinking milk, or swishing water in your mouth to neutralize the acids.

Instead of candy, the dentists suggest a list of things you would expect that a group of dentists would come up with for Halloween handouts, they suggest things like sugarless gum, stickers, crayons or trail mix.
