
Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch Founder Bob Bardwell Dies at 78
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The founder of Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch near Rochester passed away on Thursday.
Bob Bardwell was 78 years old and had been ill with cancer.
According to an obituary posted by Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, Bardwell opened Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch along Olmsted County Road 6 next to the North Branch of the Root River in 1976. Bob had suffered severe injuries in a construction accident several years earlier that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Over the years, the facility he established has steadily grown, and according to the obituary, "now offers a wide range of programs for individuals and families with disabilities, as well as for military families, providing respite, connection, and hope." The organization's website says Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch now covers 120 acres and serves 16,000 people annually.
Bob Bardwell was also well known for his participation in marathons. The Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch website says he completed 100 marathons as a wheelchair athlete and took first place in 75 races, including the Twin Cities and Grandma's Marathon.

His obituary says a public visitation will be held at the Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch Chapel on Sunday, August 3, from 3 to 6 PM. A private memorial service is being planned for a later date.
