Stillwater Prison Inmate Admits Running Drug Distribution Network
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man serving time at Stillwater State Prison has admitted to distributing methamphetamine inside the facility.
The US Attorney For Minnesota says 36-year-old Axel Kramer has entered a guilty plea to a federal charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. According to court documents, he admitted to conspiring with a former correctional officer to distribute the drugs within the high-security prison. The former correctional officer was identified as 26-year-old Faith Gratz, who previously pleaded guilty to the same charge.
Federal prosecutors say Kramer was able to obtain wholesale quantities of methamphetamine from sources outside the prison and that Gratz would pickup the drug packages. She then used her position as a guard to smuggle the meth into the prison and pass the packages to Kramer.
The charges stated that Gratz brought in shipments of methamphetamine to the prison on six different occasions. She also smuggled multiple cell phones into the prison to be used by Kramer to contact his suppliers and others involved in the distribution network.
The evidence against the pair included hundreds of text messages between Kramer and Gratz. Federal prosecutors say those messages included communications about the criminal conspiracy and their romantic relationship.
Kramer is serving a 288-month prison sentence for a second-degree murder conviction.
