Rochester’s Historic Walk-Up Dairy Queen is Finally Re-Opening
It's finally happening! After being closed last summer, Minnesota's oldest Dairy Queen is finally going to be reopening.
It's the historic, walk-up Dairy Queen on North Broadway in Rochester, MN. It's been around since 1947. But in March of 2024, the Spratte family, who had been operating the Dairy Queen since it opened, decided it was time to sell.
Sadly, no one bought the business, so it sat closed all summer of 2024. But then, a little over a year after being listed, a new family has bought the business!
We shared a story on May 1st with the exciting news that it had finally sold.

It hasn't opened for business just yet this summer, though.

New Owners Of Minnesota's Oldest Dairy Queen
The Pierson family now owns this historic Dairy Queen. As Nicole Pierson writes in a post from May 1st, "[We're] so excited to own and operate the oldest Dairy Queen in MN with our kids."
The Dairy Queen now has an Instagram account where they shared on July 3rd that they'll be opening soon.
Still no official date of the re-opening as of writing this, but I'm super excited!
Fun fact, I have never been to that Dairy Queen. When I finally realized our town is the home of the oldest DQ in Minnesota, they had closed. So this Blizzard is going to be a year and a half in the making, at least!
